Your Future Starts Here

Join the ranks of thousands of drivers who have made the right decision to drive with Sharp.

What kind of licence do you need to have to drive a school bus?

To drive a school bus you are required to have a B or E class licence. Don’t have your bus licence? No problem – Sharp offers free in class and behind-the-wheel training and licence upgrading. Our P.R.I.D.E. certified trainers are recognized by the Ministry of Transportation for their dedication to training and have signing authority to upgrade your licence.

I only have my G licence, can I drive for Sharp?

Yes! To be eligible for our training program, all you need is a G-class Ontario Driver’s Licence. Our skilled and knowledgeable trainers will do the rest and help you to upgrade your licence to a B.

Will I have to get a background check?

In order to protect our riders, all drivers are required to pass a Vulnerable Sector Screening (VSS) and a Criminal Background Check prior to getting behind the wheel of a school bus.

Are there any upfront expenses to becoming a bus driver?

There are some up-front expenses you will have to incur in order to ensure you are fit to drive, however we offer compensation for many of these, which you will receive after your probationary period. These are:

  • Driver Medical (one time fee)
  • Online Criminal Background Check (one time fee)
  • 3 year uncertified Driver’s Abstract (one time fee)
  • Vulnerable Sector Search (reimbursed after probationary period)
I am a full-time caregiver, can my children/ grand-children accompany me on the bus?

We have many parents/ grandparents/ caregivers that bring their children along for the ride. As long as there is space, it is safe, and it makes logistical sense, our managers will do their best to accommodate you and your little one!

My child is a student at a school that Sharp services, can I drive their school bus?

If the route is available, we always try to accommodate what makes most sense for our drivers. Each request is made on a case-by-case basis, though, so this is something you would have to discuss with your division manager to be sure.

Can I park the bus at or near my home?

Many of our drivers who have extra space do opt to park their bus near their homes. As long as the space is secure, can be plugged in during the winter months and makes logistical sense, our managers will do their best to accommodate offsite parking for our drivers who request it.

What does it pay?

Our pay rates vary slightly throughout each division based on a number of different factors. For the most accurate estimate, reach out to the division in the location closest to you. You can apply online here and someone will reach out to you, or you can contact us directly for more information.

Are you hiring in my location?

With 12 locations across Southern Ontario, we’re always hiring! Click here to see our list of division locations to see if we’re in your area!

Is there an age restriction to drive a school bus?

We do require our drivers to be at least 21 years of age, however there is no age cap! As long as you are able to successfully pass your medical screening and are deemed fit to drive by the MTO you can drive a bus with Sharp!
